The Psychology of Eye Movement

In an exclusive, cutting-edge webinar destined to revolutionize your approach to patient care, we're thrilled to present "The Psychology of Eye Movement" - an essential exploration of how clinicians can understand and utilize the power of eye movements to significantly enhance treatment outcomes for patients experiencing dizziness accompanied by anxiety, stress, sensory reweighting dysfunction, and trauma.

By tapping into the intricate connection between eye movements and emotional distress, you will unlock innovative strategies to transform patient interactions and treatment efficacy.

Speakers: DeAnn Fitzgerald, OD, and Emily Schottman, OD, LPC - Dr. Fitzgerald shares her perspective and treatment strategies from a neuro-optometrist viewpoint, followed by a 30-minute interactive Q&A session. This session provides insights into a variety of treatment approaches to optimize outcomes in patients with anxiety, stress, and multifactorial sensory re-weighting dysfunction.

Dr. Schottman shares her perspective and treatment strategies from a licensed professional counselor, followed by a 30-minute interactive Q&A session. This session provides insights into the use of eye movements to calm the nervous system through parvocellular and magnocellular visual systems for improved outcomes in those with rumination and catastrophization.

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to demonstrate the following:

Learn to recognize the critical role of eye movements in patients grappling with emotional distress from dizziness and balance disorders, gain expertise in implementing cutting-edge treatment activities that leverage eye movements, sensory techniques, and grounding exercises, acquire practical skills to utilize eye movements within treatment sessions as a potent tool to decrease anxiety and stress, making substantial improvements in patient wellness and therapy receptiveness, learn to identify listening cues and verbal responses that open new avenues of trust and understanding in patients with anxiety, stress, and trauma.

Clinical Tidbits Bundled Package

Includes the following educational courses:

Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness Treatment Strategies - Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD or 3PD) is a common yet complicated vestibular-related disorder. 3PD can be disabling for patients and challenging for clinicians. Bridgett Wallace PT, DPT is joined by Madison Oak, PT, DPT, to discuss treatment ideas for those that suffer from 3PD.

Dizziness in the Acute Care Setting - Karen Recendez, PT, DPT, Kendal Reddell, PT, DPT, NCS, and Bridgett Wallace, PT, DPT discuss dizziness in the acute care setting. Dr. Recendez understands the challenges of evaluating acute dizziness and will provide insight into assessment and how to guide patients beyond the acute care setting.

Linking Vestibular Diagnostics to Vestibular Rehab - Videonystagmography (VNG) is the most widely used vestibular function test and can provide valuable information to identify both peripheral and central vestibular disorders. The VNG alone, however, rarely results in a firm diagnostic conclusion. It is best used further to support a suspected diagnosis with other inner ear-related tests. Experts agree that standardized vestibular-related tests provide insightful, objective information, but the quantitative measurements must be coupled with a comprehensive history and intake of symptoms.

MdDS: Research to Clinical Practice - In this training, Bridgett Wallace, PT, DPT, define MdDS and the Dai protocol, the role vestibular rehab plays in the treatment of MdDS/PSS-m, and how pharmaceutical interventions and cognitive behavior therapy have also shown to be beneficial.

Visual Vestibular Integration in Return to Sport - In this educational session, Todd Daniels, MS, ATC, LMT, CSCS, CCVT, ITAT discusses visual vestibular integration in return to sport: most commonly reported symptoms, concussion clinical trajectories, where to start rehab, treatment progression and hierarchy, rehab progression, and integration and RTP/RTL. (excerpt from the Clinical Pearls in Vision, Vestibular, Concussion Summit)

Visual-Vestibular Therapy for Functional Impairments Post-Concussion - In this 90-minute video training, Visual-Vestibular Therapy for Functional Impairments Post-Concussion Training, we review 2 case studies of patients with persisting symptoms post-concussion from 2 different outpatient clinics. The case studies include findings from their initial evaluations: one from an occupational therapist’s perspective and one from a physical therapist’s perspective. We share how we progressed treatment activities based on some impairments identified in the evaluation.

The Concussion Sessions

Concussion care is rapidly evolving with newer research highlighting that up to 43% of individuals may have symptoms persist for months after the initial injury. Concussion is not an injury that only affects one part of our brain and thus, to be most effective, our treatments can not be silo'd in their approach.

In the Concussion Sessions, Dr. John Leddy presents on, Why Assessing the Neck in Concussion Patients is Critical. Dr. Leddy discusses how common neck injuries accompany concussion, how they have similar symptoms, how they raise risk of delayed recovery, and how early identification and treatment prevent prolonged symptoms for these patients. Natasha Wilch, PT highlights how understanding the interplay and integrative nature of your physiology & neurology can enhance outcomes sooner for your concussion clients.

brought to you by NeckCare

About Natasha Wilch, PT - With over a decade of experience as a Registered Physical Therapist and seven years dedicated to working with concussion clients, she has honed her expertise to the point where clients travel from all over the world to seek her specialized concussion rehabilitation services at Symphony Brain Performance, the clinic she founded in 2015.

About John J. Leddy MD, FACSM, FACP, FAMSSM - As a primary care sports medicine physician, Dr. Leddy's goal is to provide the best evidence-based evaluation and treatment practices to patients with concussion and post-concussion syndrome and to conduct clinical and physiological research on these conditions. He currently serves as medical director of the University at Buffalo Concussion Management Clinic, which is located at UB South Campus. He is also the director of outcomes research for the Department of Orthopaedics and program director for the UB Primary Care Sports Medicine fellowship.
